Costume Plot

Here's the working costume plot for the our production of Merry Wives of Windsor.  This will be updated on an ongoing basis.  Cast members also received additional information with example pictures included.

The important dates for them are:

• July 7:  a check-in/work session of fairies on
• July 12:  Costume parade--this is a chance for me and the costume mistress and tech director to see what everyone looks like together.  Changes/additions may be asked for by me or them.  The actors would have one week to make those changes.
• July 19:  First dress rehearsal.  Last minute changes may still occur this late in the process.

General Notes:

All Men:

• Setting:  1878, South Dakota
• Boots are a must.
• Suits should be cotton, wool or look like they’re that.
• 3-button suits are best.  2-button suits should be re-buttoned to look like three button suit
• Lapels were short and notched, but could be any width
• Vests were double-breasted, or “gambler’s” style

All Women:

• Setting:  1878, South Dakota
• Boots are a must.
• Dress should reflect your socio-economic position.  Patterns are fine, gingham is not.
• Hats are appropriate for outside scenes
• Gloves are OK, but may be too hot.

The actual plot:

Falstaff

            1.  Union Army Officer Coat (open) and pants, sash and epaulets, hat with plumage, dirty undershirt

            2.  Big floral muumuu with mob cap

3.  Hat with antlers

Ford

            1.  Brown 3 piece suit w/double breasted vest (warm colors), collarless shirt, tie, hat

            2.  Different jacket, and hat (for Ford)

Page

1.  Gray or Blue, 3-piece suit w/flashy double-breasted vest (cool colors), collarless shirt, tie, hat

Slender

            1.  Light 2 piece suit with bright double breasted vest, frilly shirt and tie (yellows, lavenders)
            2.  Hat with flower, or flower in lapel

Shallow

            1.  Neat three-piece suit (grey if possible), white shirt, tie

Sir Hugh

            1.  Black, 3-piece suit with vest, white shirt dark tie with Parsons hat

            2.  Satyr costume

Dr. Caius

            1.  Neat 3-piece suit (patterned), shirt, bright jabot tie, hat, gloves

Fenton

            1.  Pants, colored shirt, vest (double-breatsed?), hat

Bardolph

            1.  2 piece suit of any color, dirty shirt, suspenders, arm garters, gun.

Pistol

            1.  Dark/Black 3 piece suit with double-breasted vest (black or red), white shirt, red tie, hat, gun

            2.  German Duke costume

Nym

            1.  Dark pants, suspenders, western-bib style shirt, gun, knife

Peter Simple

            1.  Pants, suspenders, shirt, hat

            1.  Dress in cool colors, hat

Alice Ford

            1.  Dress in warm colors, or shirt, skirt and jacket in warm colors, hat

Mistress Quickly

            1.  Servant dress, but with v-neck.

            2.  Queen of the Fairies costume (not blue, green, white if possible)

Hostess of the Garter

            1.  Bright, shiny, flashy dress with lots of ruffles, long gloves, feathers for hair?

Anne Page

            1.  Prairie dress, not gingham, but young looking, attractive

            2.  Blue fairy costume (robe, headpiece)
